MATHEMATICAL SYMBOLS

thank you for reading

In every mathematics calculation one must use mathematical symbols to get a result, symbols show the relationship or operations between two numbers or integers.

LIST OF MATHEMATICS SYMBOLS

1. Addition +

this adds two numbers together to give a SUM

e.g 3+4= 7, 4+5=9, 2+2= 4, 6+4= 10 etc.

2. Substraction -

subtraction shows the difference between two numbers

example: 4 - 2 = 2, 3 - 1 = 2 , 6 - 4 =2, 8 - 6 = 2, 10 - 8 = 2, etc

in the example above, the difference between each number is 2.

3. Multiplication *

this mathematical symbol gives the product of two numbers.

example: 3 * 4 = 12, 12 * 1 = 12, 5 * 5 = 25, 3 * 2 = 6, etc

4. Division /

As you know, when this symbol is between two numbers it means to divide one number by another a quotient.

example: 4/2 = 2, 6/2 = 3, 8/ 2 = 4, 10/2 = 5, 20/2 = 10, etc.

5. less that (<) and greater than (>)

this symbol looks like the heads of two arrow moving in opposit directions. the less than symbol means that a number is lower less than another number, example.

2 < 5, 3 < 5, 4 < 7, 5 < 8, 9 < 12 , etc.

and the greater than symbol means one number is greater than another number, example.

4 > 2, 6 > 4, 5 > 2, 7 > 4, 11 > 6, etc.

6. Equals =

As you can see this Mathematical symbol was used to show the result of the sum, difference and product of two numbers. it's also used to show when one number is equal to two numbers.

example:

2 = 1 + 1, 3 = 2 + 1, 4 = 2 + 2, 6 = 3 + 3, 10 = 5 + 5, etc.

there are a lot of mathematical symbols, i'll discuss them later, but for now this are the basics.
